Nazareth College Department of Music's Chamber Singers present Handel's MESSIAH

Students from the Nazareth College Department of Music's Chamber Singers, under the direction of professor Mark Zeigler, conductor, present their fall recital — G. F. Handel's MESSIAH — on Sunday, November 22, 2015. Lecturer Yi-Wen Chang will serve as accompanist; Daniel Halbstein will serve as graduate assistant conductor. Handel's MESSIAH holds an extraordinary place both among the composer's works and in the history of Western music — no other work has met with the same wide and enduring response. The event takes place at 3 p.m. in Linehan Chapel, and is free and open to the public.

Nazareth College Department of Music's Concert Choir presents ENGLISH AND FRENCH CLASSICS

Students in the Nazareth College Department of Music's Concert Choir, under the direction of lecturer Yunn-Shan Ma, conductor, present their fall recital — ENGLISH AND FRENCH CLASSICS — on Sunday, November 8. The concert's program will feature masterworks from the French and English choral literature, including works of Duruflé, Saint-Saëns, Britten, Parry, Finzi, and Fauré. The event takes place at 3 p.m. in Linehan Chapel, and is free and open to the public.

Students in the Nazareth College Department of Music's Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of assistant professor Kristen Shiner McGuire, present their fall recital on Monday, November 23. The Nazareth College student musicians will be joined by the Brockport High School Percussion Ensemble (Victoria Valente, conductor). The concert's program will feature works by Chris Crockarell, Dan Moore, Jim Scheuer, Ivan Trevino, and Christopher Rouse. The concert takes place at 7:30 p.m. in the Wilmot Recital Hall, and is free and open to the public.

Students in the Nazareth College Department of Music's Wind Symphony and Campus Band, under the direction of assistant professor Jared Chase and lecturer Steven E. Zugelder, will present their fall recital, FABULOUS FIRSTS on Sunday, November 15, 2015. The program will feature first compositions for wind band by some of its most prominent composers, including Percy Grainger, Gustav Holst, Alfred Reed, and Eric Whitacre. The concert takes place at 3 p.m. in Linehan Chapel, and is free and open to the public.

Nazareth College Theatre and Dance Department presents Floyd Collins November 13-22

The Nazareth College Theatre and Dance Department and Theatre League are pleased to present "Floyd Collins" -- a musical inspired by the true story of a man in search of his American dream -- as the second show in the department's 2015-2016 production season. The show will run November 13, 14, 20, and 21 at 8 p.m.; and November 15 and 22 at 2 p.m., in Studio Theatre A48 at the Nazareth College Arts Center. "Floyd Collins" features a student cast, crew, and orchestra.

The Nazareth College Department of Music's 2015-2016 Concert Series continues with its annual concert/food drive Halloween Spooktacular on Friday, October 23, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. in the Wilmot Recital Hall. The concert will feature timely music as well as the poetry of Edgar Allen Poe, face painting, games, and a costume contest.

Nazareth College Theatre and Dance Department presents "The Beaux' Stratagem" October 16-25

The Nazareth College Theatre and Dance Department and Theatre League are pleased to present "The Beaux' Stratagem," in the delightful style of Comedy of Manners. This is the first mainstage show in the department's 2015-2016 production season. The show will run October 16, 17, 23, and 24 at 8 p.m.; and October 18 and 25 at 2 p.m., in the Callahan Theater at the Nazareth College Arts Center. This romantic comedy complete with 18th century costumes and swordplay will provide Rochester theatergoers with a rare treat. "The Beaux' Stratagem" features a student cast and crew.

Twenty Nazareth College Music and Musical Theatre students in chorus for Josh Groban's upstate New York tour stops

Twenty vocal music and music theatre students from Nazareth College's Music and Theatre and Dance departments have been selected to sing backup at Josh Groban's upstate New York tour stops at the Palace Theatre, Albany, New York, Saturday, October 3, 2015; the Landmark Theatre, Syracuse, New York, Tuesday, October 6; and Shea's Performing Arts Center, Buffalo, New York, Wednesday, October 7. Nancy Strelau, associate professor in professional practice/auditions and instrumental coordinator/orchestra conductor in the Nazareth College Department of Music will also join Groban on stage as a violinist. Strelau is serving as vocal contractor for the tour appearances.

Quinton Harvey Receives Prestigious Fulbright Award

Quinton Harvey of Utica, N.Y., receives prestigious Fulbright Award from the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Harvey earned his bachelor of music in music theory and bachelor of music in vocal performance, along with a minor in German, and he will teach English in Germany. He will be foreign languages assistant in a German classroom. Outside the classroom, he proposed using his musical skills to establish a community choir that would explore both German and American traditional folk music. He is working on a proposal for a Fulbright to Austria for the year following his current Fulbright. Otherwise, Harvey will stay in Germany and begin a master's program in musicology.

Ebony Edwards Receives Prestigious Fulbright Award

Ebony Edwards of Rochester, N.Y., received a prestigious Fulbright Award from the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Edwards earned her undergraduate degrees at Nazareth in Italian and inclusive childhood/middle childhood Education, and then earned her master's in early childhood education, and she will teach English in Malaysia. As an inclusive educator, Edwards highly values her students' individuality and diverse backgrounds and wanted to totally immerse herself in a culture much different from her own. Upon her return, she plans to continue her search for a full time position as an elementary school teacher.

Kara DuChene Receives Prestigious Fulbright Award

Kara DuChene of Sherill, N.Y., receives a prestigious Fulbright Award from the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. DuChene earned her bachelor of arts in Italian with a minor in international studies from Nazareth in December 2011 and graduated with her master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in December 2014. She has been selected to teach English in Italy.

Stephanie Adams Receives Prestigious Fulbright Award

Stephanie Adams of Ilion, N.Y., receives prestigious Fulbright Award from the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Adams earned her bachelor of art in Asian Studies, along with minors in Chinese and Spanish. She has been selected to teach English to elementary or junior high aged children in Taiwan. Upon her return, Adams will attend Georgetown University to pursue a master's degree in Asian Studies.

Two Nazareth College visual communication design students create season artwork for Blackfriars Theatre in Rochester, New York

Two Nazareth College visual communication design students created the 2015-2016 season and event artwork for Blackfriars Theatre. "I'm extremely proud of Meagan and Amanda's efforts," said Sherri Baker Hamilton, assistant professor in the College's Art Department and director of the visual communication design program. "We couldn't have achieved such a successful outcome of a real-world project, or had the rich community engagement experience, without the tremendous support we received from Blackfriars." Blackfriars Theatre is a mid-sized professional theatre that has entertained audiences for 63 years in Rochester, New York.

The evening's program will feature works by John Cage/Lou Harrison, Anthony Cirone, Mark Ford, George and Ira Gershwin, Murray Houllif, and Dan Moore. This event is free and open to the public.

Drew Simoneau Earns Athletic Honors at Nazareth College

Drew Simoneau, member of the men's lacrosse team, is one of Nazareth College's Athletes of the Week for the period ending April 27 and the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the period ending April 26. Simoneau reached 1,000 face-off wins for his career in a pair of Empire 8 Conference wins. He won 12 of 14 face-offs with 11 ground balls in a 29-0 win over Houghton. Simoneau then captured 12 of 19 face-offs in a 16-6 win at St. John Fisher.

Haley DeVona Named One of Nazareth College's Athletes of the Week

Haley DeVona, member of the women's lacrosse team, is one of Nazareth College's Athletes of the Week for the period ending April 27. DeVona scored two goals and had four assists in a 21-3 home-field win over Alfred. In a 13-12 win against Stevens, she added four goals, including one in overtime, and one assist. DeVona leads the Golden Flyers in scoring with 52 points on 35 goals and 17 assists.
