Nazareth College Music Department announces winners of 2017 Concerto/Aria Competition

Each year, undergraduate majors from the Nazareth College Music Department compete in the Concerto/Aria Competition for the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Nazareth College Symphony Orchestra and Nazareth College Wind Symphony. The four 2017 winners were Brandon McCardle (trumpet), Hadley Strelau (mezzo soprano), Ben Reisinger (baritone), and Victoria Moore (saxophone). The winners were recognized during two recent concerts.

Students from Nazareth College Music Department present Gian Carlo Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief January 27-28

Students from the Nazareth College Department of Music's Opera Workshop and Symphony Orchestra are pleased to present a full production of Gian Carlo Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief at 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28 in the Callahan Theater. The students will reprise the production at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, February 4 at the Lyric Theatre, in a double bill with Menotti's The Telephone, featuring Rochester Lyric Opera artists.

Nazareth Awarded Gilman Scholarship to Study Abroad

Nazareth College students earned the distinct honor of being three of approximately 850 American undergraduate students from 359 colleges and universities across the U.S. selected to receive the prestigious Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs to study or intern abroad during the spring 2017 academic term.

Empire 8 Rookie of the Week

Rachel Benedict named Empire 8 Rookie of the Week for the week ending December 11. Benedict finished with 22 points (8-for-13) en route the win over Wells. She also pulled down nine rebounds and dished out a career-high five assists.

Empire 8 Athlete of the Week

Samantha Peebles named Empire 8 Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending December 11. Peebles scored a career-high 22 points (6-of-8), including going 4-for-5 from 3-point range, to help Nazareth to an 88-67 win over Wells on Tuesday. The four 3-pointers was also a single game high. She also had seven rebounds, five assists and one steal in the victory.

Empire 8 Athlete of the Week

Matt Battaglia has been named Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending December 11. Battaglia won the 1,000-meter run and was part of the winning 4 x 400 relay at the RIT Early Season Invite on Thursday. He clocked a 2:37.95 in the 1,000 to take first. The senior teamed up with Jacob Murray, Jenoy Merchant and Nathaniel Murad to claim the top spot in 4 x 400 relay (3:35.50), over three seconds ahead of RIT.

Empire 8 Athlete of the Week

Samantha Goble has been named Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending December 11. Goble won the 1,000-meter run on the women's side and helped the 4 x 400 relay finish second at the RIT Early Season Invite. She clocked an ECAC qualifying time of 3:10.53 in the 1,000 in her first-ever running of the event. The 4 x 400 relay was edged by .03 seconds by Roberts Wesleyan.

Empire 8 Rookie of the Week

Cody Green (Men's Basketball) has been named Empire 8 Rookie of the Week for the week ending December 4. Green scored in double figures in all three games for Nazareth, going an impressive 12-for-19 (.632) from 3-point range. He started off the week with a career-high 17 points, including going 5-of-6 from 3-point land, in Nazareth's win over Alfred State. On Friday, he poured in 11 points on 3-for-5 from downtown against RIT. He closed out the week with 15 points on 4-for-8 from 3-point.

Empire 8 Athlete of the Week

Tyler Stenglein has been awarded Empire 8 Athlete of the Week Stenglein averaged 18.7 points, 3.7 assists and eight rebounds per game in a 1-2 week for Nazareth on 19-of-35 (.543 percent) from the floor. He notched 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a 69-54 win over Alfred State on Tuesday. He followed that up with a 24-point game, with eight rebounds and three assists in an 87-79 loss to RIT on Friday in the Mark's Pizzeria Crosstown Shootout. Nazareth College voice students honored in regional singing competition

Several Nazareth College voice students were recognized by the Central New York-Finger Lakes Chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (CNYFL-NATS) during its annual Student Audition on October 29, 2016 at Ithaca College. The awards celebrate high standards of vocal art. Students from throughout the region competed in classical and musical theatre categories.

Nazareth College Music student Ben Reisinger named a finalist for prestigious 2016 American Prize Vocal Competition

Baritone Ben Reisinger, a student in the Nazareth College Music Department, has been named a 2016 finalist for the Voice/Friedrich & Virginia Schorr Memorial Award-college/university opera division (men) of The American Prize. The American Prize is a series of national competitions in the performing arts that recognize the best recorded performances by ensembles and individuals at various levels.

B.A. Rudolph Foundation Scholarship

Scholarships are given to students who embody the goals of the B.A. Rudolph Foundation with the intention of alleviating some of the burden of the cost of higher education. The selection criteria includes a required GPA of 3.0 or higher, exceptional leadership skills, dedication to the community, as well as being socially responsible, progressive, and driven.

Back by popular demand: Josh Groban invites 20 Nazareth College voice students and alumni to join him again at upstate New York tour stops

Twenty vocal music and musical theatre students and alumni from Nazareth College's Music and Theatre & Dance departments have been selected to sing backup at Josh Groban's upstate New York tour stops. The students were invited back by Groban's national music director after performing with Groban in Albany, Buffalo, and Syracuse in October, 2015. The upstate New York tour stops are at the Saratoga Springs Performing Arts Center, Monday, July 25, 7:30 p.m.; and the Darien Lake Performing Arts Center, Tuesday, July 26, 7:30 p.m.
