Nazareth College recently inducted its 2018 Class into the New York Phi chapter of Pi Gamma Mu, a national social science honor society.

The Pi Delta Phi National French Honor Society has welcomed new members from Nazareth College. Nazareth's Delta Iota Chapter was created in 1965 to recognize outstanding scholarship in the French language. Pi Delta Phi is the oldest academic honor society for a modern foreign language in the United States and admission to the society is the highest academic honor in the field of French.

The time has come to recognize outstanding members of the Nazareth Community for their service and dedication to civic engagement. The President's Civic Engagement Awards are given annually to Nazareth members who have gone above and beyond the call to service and are dedicated to improving the community we share.

He's excited to head to medical school at the University of Rochester, but first the dream of traveling and teaching is calling to Shane Fuentes '18, a senior biochemistry major, who is Nazareth College's latest Fulbright Scholar.

The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has awarded Nazareth College sophomore Katherine Saslawsky a Study Abroad Grant. The $1,000 award will allow Saslawsky, a Music Performance/Music Therapy double major, to travel to Salzburg and Vienna, Austria and Venice, Italy to study some of the world's most legendary composers - from Beethoven and Brahms to Mahler and Mozart in the cities in which they lived and created. In Vienna, Saslawsky will present her research on Gustav Mahler to her fellow students.

Phi Kappa Phi is the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society. The Society's mission is "to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others." Membership to Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation only to the top 7.5 percent of juniors and the top 10 percent of seniors and graduate students, along with faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.

Nazareth is proud to announce that sophomore Joshua Fess, History and Inclusive Adolescent Education major, has been selected for a 2018 Newman Civic Fellowship.

Daniel Jacob '19 was selected for the Rochester Chapter Financial Executives International (FEI) $1000 scholarship because of his academic excellence and strong leadership qualities.

Franca Mantisi has been honored by the Italian Women's Civic Club (IWCC) of Rochester with the 2017 Dante Scholarship. Mantisi, a native of Rochester, N.Y., is a Visual Communication and Design major who has a passion for the visual arts.

Phi Kappa Phi student vice presidents from across the nation recently attended the Society's 2017 Student Vice President Leadership Summit held July 14-15 in Denver, Colorado.

Jennifer Wess, a current Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow, is spending the early part of her summer in the nation's capital as the recipient of an exclusive scholarship.

Nazareth students named to the Spring 2017 Dean's List.

Angela Tona and Isho Abukar are recipients of Nazareth College's Center for Spirituality Award, which is given to a graduating senior who exemplifies the spiritual values of our campus community: hospitality, diversity, inclusion, respect, acceptance, and service.

Andrea Raphael was honored with the Jessica Shackelton Maclay Partners for Serving Award at the recent Nazareth College President's Civic Engagement Awards. Jessica Shackelton Maclay was a Nazareth graduate from the Social Work Department who, as an alumna, went on to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA, and was one of the founding coordinators of Partners for Serving and co-founder of Homework Help (now known as Nazareth College Connection). Tragically, Jessica passed away in 2011. The "Jessica Shackelton Maclay Partners for Serving Award" was created to honor Jessica's life and community service legacy, and is awarded to one senior.

The Partners for Learning Award is given to one senior from the Partners for Learning Program selected on the basis of exemplary commitment to the program, outstanding leadership, and contributions to the vision and excellence of Partners for Learning.

The Community Service Award recognizes students who have demonstrated a commitment to service, either to our own Nazareth College community or the greater community at large. The Award for faculty, staff, and community partner recipients are members of the Nazareth community who make outstanding efforts providing volunteer service.

Julia Madore wins the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society Conference "Best of Conference Award."

Each year, undergraduate majors from the Nazareth College Music Department compete in the Concerto/Aria Competition for the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Nazareth College Symphony Orchestra and Nazareth College Wind Symphony. The four 2017 winners were Brandon McCardle (trumpet), Hadley Strelau (mezzo soprano), Ben Reisinger (baritone), and Victoria Moore (saxophone). The winners were recognized during two recent concerts.

The following people recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

Students from the Nazareth College Department of Music's Opera Workshop and Symphony Orchestra are pleased to present a full production of Gian Carlo Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief at 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28 in the Callahan Theater. The students will reprise the production at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, February 4 at the Lyric Theatre, in a double bill with Menotti's The Telephone, featuring Rochester Lyric Opera artists.
