Anne Czelusniak Claims Second Place at the Nazareth College Spring Invitational

Anne Czelusniak claims second place at the Nazareth College Spring Invitational at Mendon Golf Club on April 26 and 27. Czelusniak finished five shots back with scores of 93 and 85 to claim second place.

Jennifer Lachell Claims Top Individual Honors at the Nazareth College Spring Invitational

Jennifer Lachell claimed top individual honors at the Nazareth College Spring Invitational at Mendon Golf Club on April 26 and 27. Lachell shot rounds of 89 and 84 for a total of 173 to claim top individual honors. Czelusniak finished five shots back with scores of 93 and 85 to claim second place.

Matthew Maloney Receives Prestigious Fulbright Award

Matthew Maloney receives prestigious Fulbright Award from the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Maloney is a senior history and Spanish double major with minors in legal studies and political science. He will travel to Andorra to teach English at Centre de Formacio Professional to teens ages 16-18. Maloney plans to start an ultimate frisbee team, an activity that he has been dedicated to during college.

Katelynn Kundrata Receives Prestigious Fulbright Award

Katelynn Kundrata receives prestigious Fulbright Award from the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Kundrata is a senior teaching English to speakers of other languages and will be teaching English in primary and secondary schools in Malaysia. She will engage her students and the community in an art project focused on cultural understanding. Upon her return, Katelynn plans to continue teaching English.

Teri Bunce Receives Prestigious Fulbright Award

Teri Bunce receives prestigious Fulbright Award from the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Bunce is a senior international studies and history double major with a minor in French. She will teach English in South Korea and is planning to establish an a cappella English ensemble for teenaged boys and girls. Upon her return, Bunce plans to attend graduate school in the Washington, D.C. area and pursue a career in international relations.

Recipients of the award were honored at the 2014 President's Civic Engagement Awards Ceremony on April 22 where Nazareth College President Daan Braveman awarded each student.

Cherise Madigan Earns Campus Compact Newman Civic Fellow Award

Cherise Madigan is the recipient of the national Newman Civic Fellow Award. The Newman award, presented by Campus Compact, is given to college student leaders who represent the next generation of civic leaders through service, research, and advocacy. She is the first Nazareth student to earn this national honor and is one of 197 student leaders from colleges nationwide recognized.

Nearly 60 students on display at Nazareth College Arts Center Gallery in Art Department's Undergraduate Student Art Show

The Nazareth College Department of Art's annual Undergraduate Student Art Show, featuring the work of nearly 60 students, is on display in the Arts Center Gallery March 28-April 18, 2014. Collectively, the more than 150 pieces on display represent a variety of styles and media, including aquatints, ceramics, etchings, illustrations, metals, paintings, photography, prints, sculpture, new media, and more.

Nazareth College Department of Theatre Arts opens "The Cherry Orchard" April 11 with student cast and crew

The Nazareth College Department of Theatre Arts and Theatre League will present "The Cherry Orchard," the fourth and final production of their 2013-2014 season. The show will run April 11, 12, 17, and 18 at 8 p.m.; and April 13 and 19 at 2 p.m., in Callahan Theatre at the Nazareth College Arts Center.

Brooke Sullivan Named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth College

Brooke Sullivan, member of the women's lacrosse team, has been named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth College. Sullivan scored a career-best 7 goals and added an assist for the Golden Flyers in a 21-9 win over Houghton last Friday. She leads the Golden Flyers overall with 21 points on 17 goals and four assists.

Drew Simoneau Named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth College and Empire 8 Conferenec

Drew Simoneau, member of the men's lacrosse team, has earned the titles of Athlete of the week for Nazareth College and Empire 8 Athlete of the Week. Simoneau helped the Golden Flyers to E8 wins over both Alfred and Elmira. He dominated face-offs, winning 35 of 44 in the two games and scooping up 32 ground balls. He has won 68% of his draws this season (152 for 244) and has 121 ground balls.

Jake Lafaver Named Empire 8 Indoor Track Athlete of the Year

Jake Lafaver has been named Empire 8 Indoor Track Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row. He won the 800-meter title at the E8 Conference meet in February with a winning time of 1:58.92. He improved upon that time with a clocking of 1:55.53 for a third-place finish at the NYSCTC Championships at St. Lawrence. He lowered his time even further with a 1:53.69 post to win the ECAC Championship March 7.

Tara Prosak Named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth College

Tara Prosak, member of the women's lacrosse team, has been named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth College for the week ending March 24. Prosak totaled 19 saves in goal for the Golden Flyers in a pair of one-goal non-conference defeats last week. She had 8 saves in a 6-5 home-field loss to RIT last Wednesday, then amassed 11 saves in a 7-6 loss at the University of Rochester last Saturday.

Brandon Vuolo Named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth College

Brandon Vuolo, member of the men's track and field team, has been named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth College for the week ending March 24. Vuolo broke a pair of school records over the weekend as Nazareth opened its outdoor track and field season at the Washington and Lee Carnival. Vuolo placed eighth in the shot put with a toss of 13.19 meters (43 feet, 3 1/4 inches) and ninth in the discus with a distance of 38.31 meters (125 feet, 8 inches).

Luke Wooters Named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week

Luke Wooters, member of the men's lacrosse team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the period ending March 9. Wooters scored five goals and added four assists as Nazareth split a pair of non-conference games last week. He had three goals and one assist in a 16-11 win over Hamilton last Wednesday and then contributed two goals and three assists in a 10-9 loss to St. Lawrence Saturday.

Taylor Pierson Named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth College

Taylor Pierson, member of the women's track and field team, has been named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth College for the week ending March 17. Pierson earned All-American honors for the Golden Flyers with a fifth-place finish in the long jump competition at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan. Pierson jumped 5.55 meters (18 feet, 2 1/2 inches) on her first attempt to become Nazareth's first female indoor track and field All-American.

Sophia Rhoades Named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week

Sophia Rhoades, member of the women's softball team, has been named Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week for the period ending March 16. Rhoades got off to a great offensive start to the 2014 season as she batted .462 over 10 games during the Golden Flyers' spring break excursion to Florida. She went 12-for-26 with three doubles, a triple and 12 runs batted in as Nazareth went 3-7. She also had a slugging percentage of .654.

Alison Tepas Named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth College

Alison Tepas, member of the women's tennis team, has been named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth College for the week ending March 17. Tepas continued to roll for Nazareth as she won all five spring break singles matches in straight sets last week. This year, Tepas is 18-3 overall this season and 61-34 for her career. Dating back to the fall, Tepas has won 12 straight singles matches.

Michaela Gildemeyer Named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth Colllege

Michaela Gildemeyer, member of the women's track and field team, has been named Athlete of the Week for Nazareth College for the week ending March 3. Gildemeyer ran a career-best indoor time of 2:20.15 to win the 800-meter run at the NYSCTC meet at St. Lawrence. She crossed the finish line more than four seconds faster than her closest pursuer.
