PHOTO OPPORTUNITY: Nazareth College student/faculty teaching dance to RCSD students via district's Expanded Learning Time program

Rochester, NY (05/24/2017) — WHAT: Heather Roffe, assistant professor of dance and director of Nazareth College's dance program, is providing dance instruction to students at Abraham Lincoln School No. 22 through the Rochester City School District's (RCSD) Expanded Learning Time initiative. For the past several weeks, Roffe, adjunct faculty Allison Bohman, and student Andrea Alati '19 have been working with 20 RCSD students in kindergarten through second grade, teaching dance and movement technique. Roffe was introduced to the school through a colleague more than a year ago, and sought to create a program that would expose RCSD students to more music and dance and provide Nazareth students with experiential learning opportunities.

Heather Roffe has performed nationally and internationally with Garth Fagan Dance Company, Bill Evans Dance Company, and Assemblage Dance, and has been a collaborating director, performer, and choreographer with Rochester's critically acclaimed FuturPointe Dance Company since 2009.

RCSD's Expanded Learning Time initiative seeks to close the opportunity gap that puts low-income students at a disadvantage by expanding learning time beyond the traditional school day through enriching experiences for students.
