Nazareth University named to The Princeton Review's Mental Health Services Honor Roll for 2027
Concurrently, Nazareth secures $360,000+ grant to continue extensive mental health work for students
Rochester, NY (10/30/2026) — The Princeton Review named Nazareth University as one of 76 undergraduate institutions nationwide on its 2027 Mental Health Services Honor Roll for demonstrating a strong commitment to students' mental health and well-being.
Reflecting that commitment, Nazareth has also received a new federal grant for more than $360,000 over four years for its continued work supporting student mental health.
The Honor Roll recognition is a third annual effort by The Princeton Review in partnership with the Ruderman Family Foundation, an internationally recognized organization working to end the stigma associated with mental health.
The 2027 Honor Roll members are based on data from The Princeton Review's 2026 Campus Mental Health Survey. It asked administrators at more than 700 colleges a series of questions about their school's counseling, mental health, and wellness services for students. The Princeton Review also surveyed 56,000 students across 300 colleges about their awareness of their school's mental health services.
"Our students also helped Nazareth earn #19 on The Princeton Review's Best Student Support and Counseling Services list for its 2027 Best Colleges, and I am beyond proud of our health and wellness staff and our entire community for working tirelessly to let our students know the many mental health resources available to them, and our students for knowing the importance of using them," said Maureen Finney, Ed.D., PA-C, president of Nazareth University. "Additionally, the new federal grant continues the University's commitment to students' mental health and wellness."
Nazareth plans to use the funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grant to continue work on its Mental Health Awareness Across Campus project, an integrated, holistic approach to mental health education and suicide prevention at Nazareth University.
The new federal funding supports:
- Nazareth hiring an alcohol and other drugs suicide prevention coordinator
- Gatekeeper training for 600 faculty, staff, and students - increasing the Nazareth community's ability to recognize, respond to, and refer students who are struggling with mental health issues such as substance use, self-harm, and suicidal ideation.
"This award recognizes the amazing and important work done by our Health & Counseling team," said Kathryn DeVinney, MSW, director of Nazareth's health and counseling services. "It also highlights that our students' mental health is not seen as just the responsibility of one office; it is holistically supported by our dedicated campus partners as well as the administration's deep commitment to student well-being."
