Nazareth's annual MLK Commemoration features keynote speaker Simeon Banister on Jan. 16

Rochester, NY (01/13/2023) — Nazareth commemorates the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with a special program that is open to the public. Keynote speaker Simeon Banister, leader of the Rochester Area Community Foundation and the Greater Rochester Martin Luther King Jr. Commission, will speak on the theme Roots for Change: Approaches to Social Justice Action. A livestream is also offered.
Nazareth President Beth Paul, along with a group of Nazareth students and staff, just returned from a weeklong civil rights journey at historical sites in Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee. President Paul and a student are available for interviews at the MLK event. The Nazareth group met with with activists, historians, and scholars to gain a deeper understanding of segregation and the ramifications of structural racism and how they are being called to be an advocate for civil rights and work against injustice everywhere.
