Rochester, NY (04/10/2019) — Nazareth College is celebrating the scholarly and creative achievements of its students during the eighth annual Creative Activity and Research Showcase (CARS) on Tuesday, April 16, 2019. The all-day event kicks off at 10 a.m. in the Shults Center Forum with opening remarks by President Daan Braveman. For the second year in a row, CARS will be a full day celebration. The College suspends undergraduate classes (before 6 pm) to permit the entire campus community to take part. In total, CARS 2019 will showcase 175 projects presented by over 375 students who will display their work in a variety of formats, including performances, posters, and presentations.
Here is a full look at the CARS 2019 program.
"Research is considered a high-impact practice that helps today's college students build crucial 21st century skills such as inquiry, analysis, teamwork, and communication," said Jessica Slentz, Ph.D., director of Nazareth's Sponsored Programs and Faculty Research. "And for undergraduate students, studies show that it is an important factor in student engagement and retention."
The Council of Undergraduate Research (CUR) claims that undergraduate faculty-mentored research experience can enhance student learning and increase retention and graduation in academic programs. CUR also says student research experiences can develop critical thinking, creativity, problem solving and intellectual independence, all while providing effective career preparation.
Nazareth provides dynamic opportunities for research for its undergraduate and graduate students, many of which will be highlighted during CARS. In addition, CARS will celebrate the creative scholarship of its students through performances and creative presentations of their work.
"The incredible work of Nazareth faculty takes so many forms, and that breadth of innovative scholarship is echoed in the work of our students during this exciting event," said Slentz.
Nazareth has an institutional membership to CUR, and all students, faculty, and staff are members.
