Nazareth College Arts Center to present "Moon Mouse A Space Odyssey," an all-ages, glow-in-the-dark adventure, on Sunday March 19

A family favorite in the 2013–2014 season, Lightwire Theater ("Fake Off" winner and "America’s Got Talent" finalist) returns to Rochester with another family friendly show!

Rochester, NY (02/20/2017) — The Nazareth College Arts Center is pleased to present Lightwire Theater: Moon Mouse A Space Odyssey on Sunday, March 19, 2017, at 2 p.m. in the Callahan Theater. Lightwire Theater last performed in Rochester during the Arts Center’s 2013–2014 season, when it presented DiNo-LIGHT to a nearly sold-out audience.

Visit naz.edu/arts-center/newsroom/ for photos. The performers are available for advance phone interviews.

THE PERFORMANCE

“A wonderful hour of fantasy that combines wordless storytelling with modern technology and music.” Theater Times

"An eye-popping display of storytelling that's like nothing else you've ever seen.” Broadwayworld.com

Lightwire Theater’s Moon Mouse A Space Odyssey—best described as a child-friendly, glow-in-the-dark ballet by dancers in light-up suits—is delighting audiences around the country with its electroluminescent creatures, a heartwarming original story, and technologically dazzling visuals. The production comes to life when the troupe’s dancers/puppeteers suit up in black before being wrapped in lightwire (illuminated, neon-colored wire) to conjure up the creatures appearing on the darkened stage, and is the brainchild of creators/choreographers/directors Ian Carney and Corbin Popp, whose menagerie of life-size creatures have been described by critics as “elegant sketches,” “crayon-like,” and “light drawings.”

Moon Mouse A Space Odyssey tells the story of Marvin the Mouse, who wants to be popular. Bullied and picked on by the cool rats, he retreats into his science books and a world of fantasy, where he longs to be a hero. Soon Marvin embarks on the space adventure of a lifetime: a trip to the moon on his homemade rocket, where he meets a strange cast of misfit creatures, learns of infinite peril, and discovers awesome beauty. Will Marvin’s dreams come true? Will he find the glory and acceptance he craves?

Lightwire Theater burst onto the American theater scene during Season 7 of NBC’s hit television show, America’s Got Talent. The company was eliminated during the semi-finals, despite receiving a standing ovation from the audience and judges Howie Mandel, Sharon Osbourne, and Howard Stern. The troupe has since won Season 1 of Tru TV’s Fake Off and was a finalist on My TF1’s The Best Le Meilleur Artiste in Paris. Based in New Orleans, Lightwire Theater has shared its innovative theatrical experiences with audiences in Hong Kong, Taipei, Estonia, Canada, Russia, Europe, Belarus, China, and Abu Dhabi.
