Nazareth College An Evening with Kevin Hines:
Suicide Prevention & Mental Health Advocate, Oct. 24
WHAT: Award winning author of "Cracked, Not Broken: Surviving and Thriving After a Suicide Attempt" Kevin Hines will share his inspirational story at Nazareth College. The National Comorbidity Survey-Replication (NCS-R) reported that 3/4 of all mental disorders begin by age 24, so reaching young people is a priority. Almost 40% of young adults ages 18 to 24 are enrolled in either a two- or four-year college, making colleges ideal locations for early identification to take place, according to College Enrollment Hits All-Time High, Fueled by Community College Surge by Pew Research Center, 2009.
Hines is a brain/mental health advocate, award-winning global speaker, bestselling author, and documentary filmmaker who reaches audiences with his story of an unlikely survival and his strong will to live. Two years after he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 19, he attempted to take his life by jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge. He is one of only 34 people to survive the fall, and the only one to regain full physical mobility. He is the only Golden Gate Bridge jump survivor who is actively spreading the message of living mentally healthy. This presentation is free and open to the public.
