MLK 50: Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Dr. King's Assassination

At Nazareth College, April 2-4

Rochester, NY (03/23/2018) — The nation will join together on April 4, 2018 to celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 50 years after his death. Nazareth College will pay tribute through a series of events from April 2-4 to not only reflect and recount the history of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s death but to connect the history to contemporary issues. The events will be sponsored by the Nazareth Black Student Union, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Center for Spirituality, and the Office for Diversity and Inclusion.

On Monday, April 2 the Nazareth and Rochester communities are invited to join in an Intergenerational Conversation: "Where Do We Go From Here?" from 4-5:30 p.m. in Linehan Chapel of the Golisano Academic Center. Where Do We Go From Here was the title of Dr. King's final book as well as the title of the speech he delivered August 16, 1967 at the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

On Wednesday, April 4 an Interfaith Service of Eulogies, Reflection and Prayers of Remembrance will take place in Linehan Chapel of the Golisano Academic Center from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

The National Civil Rights Museum has asked bells to be rung at places of worship, college campuses or institutions 39 times across the nation to honor the number of years Dr. King lived and to pay homage to his legacy. Nazareth College will ring Golisano Academic Center's bells beginning at 7:01 p.m. on April 4.
