Nazareth to Host 17th Annual Careers in Education Conference

Rochester, NY (02/28/2018) — As New York State faces a teaching shortage, Nazareth College is hosting more than 300 area high school students and 15 regional colleges and universities on March 14 for the 17th annual Careers in Education Conference.

According to the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) New York State will need 180,000 teachers in the next decade, as 32 percent of current teachers retire in the next five years.

This Careers in Education event provides the opportunity for high school students to learn about careers and opportunities in education. The conference will consist of concurrent sessions on a variety of topics dealing with careers in education and will wrap up with a college fair.

Keynote speaker, Jeffrey Crane, superintendent of West Irondequoit Central School District, will start the conference by addressing attendees from 9:15-9:45 a.m. This will be followed by two workshop sessions from 10:55 a.m.-12:05 p.m. in which students can choose from a variety of topics. The complete list of sessions is found here.The conference will conclude with lunch and a college fair from 12:10-1:10 p.m.

Nazareth's School of Education is offering three of the workshops including: What if They Don't Look or Sound Like Me? By Kai Strange, Seeking Leaders in Autism by Dawn Vogler-Alias and Shanna Jamanis, and a panel of Nazareth graduate students and alumni will present Tales of Teaching.
