UPDATED INFORMATION: Nazareth College Foreign Languages Department to present Hiccup in a Teacup March 3–4
Rochester, NY (02/24/2017) — The Nazareth College Foreign Languages Department will present Hiccup in a Teacup, an original, one-act, multilingual play by faculty member Dr. Candide Carrasco on Friday, March 3, 2017, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 2 p.m. (NEW TIME) in the Callahan Theater. Hiccup in a Teacup will be performed in English with some French and Spanish and is recommended for audience members age 12 and up.
Splash! It was exactly 4 p.m. when the little Comtesse Bianca Espuma del Alba let her tiny cup of tea fall on the silky tablecloth of Merlin el Encantador, causing a hiccup in the universe of Verde Luna since—when a fairy drops her tea—a new leader must be elected. Election day is certainly not an ordinary day in Verde Luna—a beautiful and lush terrarium and the perfect home for its fantastical inhabitants. For whom should they vote? And will they decide to stay in the idyllic setting where they have been trapped, or open themselves to face the heartaches and fabulous gifts of the outside world?
The Hiccup in a Teacup cast is made up of Nazareth College students and local actors: Ruben Gomez, Chelsea Jensen, Brooke Mordenga, Jackson Mosher, Jeffrey Salamone, Katie Thomas, and Joel Touranjoe.
Carrasco’s playwriting/directing credits extend back to 1968. His recent plays include Gardenias (2016), Rochester Fringe Festival favorite, Chocolate Casi Amargo and Fuji, and les Fantômes de los Sueños Perdidos (2015); Enamorados (2014); Diabolo (2013); Casablanca (2012); Barcarolle (2011); Abracadabra (2010); Azur (2008); and Peau D’Ane (2007). A native speaker of French and Spanish, Carrasco received a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Contemporary French Theater with a minor in Contemporary Latin American Literature. He has taught French and literature for more than 30 years.
