Pages of Power: Nazareth celebrates Juneteenth with a visit by author Alice Faye Duncan
Rochester, NY (06/13/2025) — Nazareth University celebrates the 2025 Juneteenth holiday by sponsoring a Rochester visit from award-winning author and historian Alice Faye Duncan. She is giving five multi-generational author talks from June 17-19, including stops at Teen Empowerment Rochester, Genesee Country Village and Museum, and Boys and Girls Club - all for students. She wraps up her week at the Genesee Valley Club and Nazareth University on Juneteenth. The Juneteenth evening event on Thursday, June 19, at Nazareth University is free and open to the public.
Through lyrical storytelling and powerful narrative, Duncan uplifts Black voices and honors the legacy of freedom fighters whose courage shaped history. Duncan's award-winning books, including Memphis, Martin, and the Mountaintop and Evicted, center on the lived experiences and resilience of Black communities, offering truth, healing, and hope for future generations. In these special presentations, Duncan will reflect on her creative process, the historical figures who have inspired her journey, and the transformative power of children's literature to affirm identity, preserve memory, and spark social change.
