Nazareth joins other Rochester colleges for MLK: King for a Day, Feb. 1

A service day of action and advocacy

Rochester, NY (01/31/2025) — Nazareth University, along with other local Rochester colleges and universities, is taking part in MLK: King for a Day on Saturday, Feb. 1, a service day of action and advocacy with partner organizations around Rochester to honor the life and work of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

King for a Day participants will start at the Stardust Ballroom at Edgerton Rec for a community-building kick-off event featuring speakers and performances from local leaders including college students from around the area.

Nazareth University's Weider Community Engagement is partnering with the MLK Planning Committee and their community partners to host service projects for the day's attendees.

WHEN: Saturday, Feb. 1

9-10 a.m. | Kickoff at Stardust Ballroom at Edgerton Rec, 41 Backus Street, Rochester

10:30-12:30 p.m. | Nazareth students out at service sites

Support food access and food security by assisting at this Rochester community pantry. Volunteers will be bagging food, serving food, and stocking shelves.

Support peacemaking! The M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence is a nonprofit that equips people to use nonviolence to create a sustainable and just world for all. Volunteers will be seed sorting, creating nonviolence media posts, as well as institute and basement cleaning and sorting.
