Nazareth Celebrates International Women's Day with Keynote and Performance by Danielle Ponder, March 8

Rochester, NY (03/01/2017) — Nazareth College’s Women and Gender Studies Program will host Danielle Ponder in celebration of Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day on March 8. The event will include a keynote address from Ponder, Monroe County Assistant Public Defender, as well as a musical performance by her popular R&B/soul band, Danielle Ponder & the Tomorrow People. The keynote address takes place in the Medaille Hall Formal Lounge on March 8 from 4-5:30 p.m. The performance by Danielle Ponder & the Tomorrow People then takes place in the Golisano Academic Center Linehan Chapel from 8-9:30 p.m.  Both are free and open to the public.  Nazareth College is located at 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y., 14618. Ponder is a hands-on activist for the poor in Rochester both through her work as a public defender and as a powerful soul singer. She was born in Rochester and has spent the greater part of her life fighting for justice in Monroe County.

The College’s women and gender studies program provides a broad-based community for interdisciplinary scholarship and inquiry focusing on women, gender, and sexualities. Students analyze gender as an organizing factor in social, political, and familial institutions and policy. The program also addresses gender-specific social injustices and strives to initiate social change from local and global perspectives.
