Art, Music, Theatre shine at Nazareth College Arts Center in April

Art department presents three gallery exhibitions showcasing student work, Jazz pianist Aaron Diehl performs in Glazer Music Performance Center on April 6, Nazareth Theatre Department presents Tony-nominated musical "Bonnie & Clyde" April 18-20

Rochester, NY (03/27/2019) — As the 2018-2019 season draws to a close, the Nazareth College Arts Center still has much planned in April, including 12 music, theatre, dance performances and art exhibitions, many of which are free.

Arts Center Series Highlights
Jazz pianist Aaron Diehl makes his Rochester debut on Saturday, April 6 at 8 p.m. in Beston Hall in the Jane and Laurence Glazer Music Performance Center. A featured jazz soloist with the New York Philharmonic, Diehl's meticulously thought-out performances, collaborations, and compositions are a leading force in today's generation of jazz contemporaries, spearheading a distinct union of traditional and fresh artistry. Diehl will perform a solo recital, "Paradoxes in Performance," in a program that includes works by Aaron Copland, Jelly Roll Morton, Satie, Philip Glass, and many more. Tickets $38.

Family-friendly theatre returns with Shh! We Have a Plan on Sunday, April 28 at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. (sensory-friendly) in Callahan Theater. Shh! We have a Plan is the enchanting new theatre production by the multi-award winning theatre company Cahoots NI from Belfast, Northern Ireland. Follow the delightful and surprising journey of three madcap characters, each of whom has a plan to capture a beautiful bird perched high in a tree! A nonverbal tale featuring magic, music, and puppetry based on the Chris Haughton book of the same name. Suggested for children ages 4+, Tickets: $13-$20.

Art Department presents three exhibitions
The Nazareth College Art Department is pleased to present three exhibitions showcasing student work this spring. These annual events represent a variety of styles and media, ceramics, drawing, graphic design, illustration, jewelry and metalsmithing, painting, photography, printmaking, typography, and video/new media. The exhibitions and receptions are free and open to the public. Some pieces will be available for purchase.

"The Undergraduate Student Art Show and Art Education Graduate Show are two juried exhibitions that celebrate and showcase the wonderful work produced by our Nazareth College art students," said gallery director and assistant professor of art Holland Webster-Houdek. "This annual celebratory event is a great way to highlight the conclusion of the academic year, to grant awards, and to congratulate all the students who are graduating from the Art Department."

Nazareth College alumni musicians and conductors return to join the Chamber Singers and Symphony Orchestra, performing Dvorák's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World," and classic choral pieces by Leonard Bernstein and Aaron Copland.

Our Voices Soar

This concert will feature both Nazareth College choral ensembles, with the Women's Choir performing a program titled "Phoenix Flight: Song of Renewal" and the Chamber Singers presenting "Fresh and Fearless: American Choral Music." Featured composers include Copland, Whitacre, Arnesen, Runestad, Jansson, Billings, and others.

Nazareth College Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band

The Nazareth College Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will perform music inspired by different landscapes, including the world premiere of Dan Welcher's Symphony No. 6 "Three Places in the East" and Steve Danyew's This World Alive, featuring photography by Ansel Adams, and Aaron Perrine's Pale Blue on Deep.

Cirque-tacular's Art of Circus
Experience the artistic masterpieces of Da Vinci, Van Gogh, Warhol, and more in this all-ages acrobatic fantasy. This is the rescheduled performance of the performances that was canceled in January due to weather. Limited tickets remain!

Regular box office hours are Monday-Friday, 11 a m.- 5 p.m. and 11 a.m. until curtain time on performance days.
