Winners of Nazareth College Department of Music's Concerto/Aria and Composition competitions -- including Norene Meyer of Newark -- to join Nazareth Symphony Orchestra in annual RISING STARS concert

2015 Feb 5

The Nazareth College Department of Music Symphony Orchestra, conducted by assistant professor Nancy Strelau, will present its annual Rising Stars concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015 in the Linehan Chapel. The concert features the 80-member orchestra and the winners of two on-campus music competitions.

Each year, Nazareth College Music majors compete for the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Nazareth College Symphony Orchestra in the Concerto/Aria Competition. The 2014-2015 competition winners are junior music education major violist Camen Hunn; senior vocal performance major Gabrielle LaBarre; and senior trumpet music therapy major Norene Meyer.

The concert will open with Eta Carinae, written by freshman tuba performance major, Michael Wall, winner of the first annual Nazareth College Symphony Orchestra Composition Competition.

Movements of the Haydn Trumpet Concerto, the slow movement of the viola concerto by J.C. Bach/Casadesus, and arias from the Barber of Seville and L'amico Fritz will round out the concert's first half. The symphony orchestra will perform Tchaikovsky's dramatic and emotional Symphony No. 5 in the second half.

This performance is free and open to the public.
