Rockwell Receives National Italian American Foundation Scholarship

2016 Feb 3

Gabrielle Rockwell of Endicott has received the National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) Jim Cantalupo Scholarship Award. Rockwell, an undergraduate student at Nazareth College, studies both Italian and International Studies.

The NIAF Scholarship Program is for students pursuing degrees in Italian language and culture, medicine, engineering, business, law, music and other specialized fields. Since the program started 40 years ago, the average scholarship ranges between $2,000 to $12,000. Anita Bevacqua McBride, co-chair of the Foundations Education and Grants Committee, said, "Gabrielle's outstanding academic achievement, commitment to community service, and demonstrated passion for her studies made her an ideal candidate to represent the values and efforts of the National Italian American Foundation."

Scholarship applicants must be a NIAF member or have a parent or guardian who is a member of the Foundation. NIAF scholarship recipients are selected based on academic merit and average GPA.

McBride said, "[The] NIAF values the importance of education and the role it plays in helping deserving Italian American students build promising futures. Contributors to the NIAF scholarship program include individuals, corporations and organizations throughout the United States and Italy."
