2017 Oct 12

Franca Mantisi has been honored by the Italian Women's Civic Club (IWCC) of Rochester with the 2017 Dante Scholarship. Mantisi, a native of Rochester, is a Visual Communication and Design major who has a passion for the visual arts.

The Dante Scholarship has been awarded annually since 1921 to assist college students with Italian heritage in paying for higher education. The scholarship is named after Dante Alighieri, a famous Italian poet of world literature. The IWCC is an organization that was organized in 1919 for the empowerment of women and their full participation in the community. It was created to join together civic-minded women and educate women voters in citizenship.

The application for the Dante Scholarship requires applicants to portray how their Italian heritage has impacted them in and out of the classroom. The IWCC has awarded $600,000 through the scholarship fund since 2000.
