Gwendolyn Dougherty of Syracuse Presents at Phi Alpha Theta National History Honor Society Conference

The Nazareth College history department is pleased to announce that two Nazareth students presented at the annual Phi Alpha Theta national history honor society conference held at Ithaca College on April 2, 2016.

Diana Batchelor of Fairport presented a paper titled, Staying Green in a Sea of Purple: How the Emerald Isle Escaped the Roman Empire's Reach.

Gwendolyn Dougherty of Syracuse presented a paper titled, Avoiding Death Like the Plague: Wound Care in the Roman Army. Dougherty earned a "Best of the Conference" Award for her paper and was honored with all of the award recipients in the closing ceremony.

In all, there were 46 papers from 13 colleges and universities in New York state and Pennsylvania.

Dr. Thomas Lappas served as a session chair and Dr. Timothy Thibodeau, faculty adviser for the Nazareth chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, served as a judge for the awards.
