Ben Reisinger of Rochester in chorus of Nazareth College Department of Music's performance of Felix Mendelssohn's ELIJAH

2014 Nov 13

Nazareth College's Department of Music and the Nazareth College Choirs are pleased to present Elijah on Sunday, November 23, at 3 p.m. in Linehan Chapel.

The Baroque oratorio written by Felix Mendelssohn premiered in 1846 as homage to the composer's predecessors, Handel and Bach. The work includes a full orchestra, full men's and women's choirs, and four vocal soloists. The performance at Nazareth College will include all of these original components.

All choir members are students at Nazareth College, including Ben Reisinger of Rochester.

Elijah opens with a beautiful overture, followed by "Help, Lord!," which introduces the powerful voices of the Nazareth College Choirs. The work is full of choir performances, solos, and quartets. Each of the four soloists is on the voice faculty in the Nazareth College Department of Music: lecturer Amy Cochrane, soprano; visiting assistant professor Katie Hannigan Tabon, mezzo-soprano; lecturer Matthew Valverde, tenor; and associate professor/coordinator of vocal studies Mario Martinez, bass-baritone. Professor Mark Ziegler will conduct.
