Nazareth Earns Honors for Electric Vehicle Workplace Charging Pledge

Rochester, NY (03/07/2018) — Nazareth College and six other Rochester businesses are earning honors for taking the Workplace Charging Challenge, which calls on Rochester employers to join the electric vehicle (EV) movement, hoping to help make the Rochester community a national leader in EV adoption. Nazareth and the others have promised to provide employees with electric vehicle charging stations.

The employers, which also include Dixon Schwabl, Larsen Engineers, Rochester Institute of Technology, SunCommon NY Inc., and SWBR, were recognized at an event at Radio Social on Tuesday, March 6. The event was co-sponsored by the city's Rochester Electric Vehicle Accelerator and the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce.

"It's exciting for Nazareth to recognized as one of the leaders in our area as we are early adopters of the EV movement and adding charging stations to our campus," said Brian McGahan, director of Campus Operations. "EVs can help our campus achieve sustainability goals by contributing to reduced emissions and operating costs."

Nazareth currently has four charging stations, and the College's Facilities Department currently operates a green fleet, including six fully electric cars and two electric golf carts. Combined, the six employers have a total of 30 charging stations.

The Rochester EV says costs for operating a level 1 or level 2 charging station is equal to running a hair dryer or clothes dryer.

Governor Cuomo's Charge NY 2.0 initiative had set a goal of 30,000 to 40,000 electric cars on the road by 2018, which has already been met. Charge NY also set a goal of making 10,000 charging stations available across the state by 2021. Currently there are about 2,000 stations.
