Nazareth College of Rochester Hosts the 71st New York State Political Science Association Conference

April 21-22, 2017

Rochester, NY (04/12/2017) — On the November 2017 ballot, voters will have the option to enact a constitutional convention that will reshape New York State's current constitution. Nazareth College will host the 71st New York State Political Science Association Conference on April 21-22. This annual meeting draws up to 200 participants from New York State and beyond, and features the latest scholarship in political science on a broad array of topics. The conference will include an Authors' Roundtable and Reception Friday April 21 at 4:45 p.m. in the Medaille Formal Lounge in Medaille Hall, and a Keynote Roundtable on the New York State Constitutional Convention Saturday April 22 at 10:30 a.m. in Room 38 of the Golisano Academic Center. Nazareth College is located at 4245 East Avenue, Rochester, N.Y., 14618.

Dr. Sharon Murphy, director of the Political Science Program in Nazareth College's Department of History and Political Science is the program chair for this year's event. Nazareth students will be assisting with the conference by welcoming guests, and providing support. Conference attendees will be able to choose from a number of panels which are scheduled over the course of the two days in the Golisano Academic Center.

On Friday, the Authors' Roundtable and Reception will include Dr. James E. Campbell from SUNY Buffalo who will present his latest work, Polarized: Making Sense of a Divided America. Additionally, Dr. Lawrence Rothenberg from the University of Rochester will discuss his forthcoming book, The Enigma of Presidential Power: Parties, Policies, and Strategic Uses of Unilateral Action (co-authored with Fang-Yi Chiou). The Keynote Roundtable on the New York State Constitutional Convention features a panel of leading experts on New York State constitutional history who will address the choice voters can make on the November 2017 ballot regarding the possibility of a constitutional convention to revise aspects of the New York State Constitution. The Keynote Roundtable is open to members of the public for a single-panel fee. Membership in NYSPSA is open to political science students and professionals inside and outside New York State, and a year's membership is automatic with registration for the conference. Nazareth College students are eligible for a reduced conference rate.
