Nazareth College launches sports & entertainment management program

Rochester, NY (10/22/2021) — Students looking for a dynamic and exciting career in sports or entertainment have a new option at Nazareth College. A bachelor's degree in sports & entertainment management provides a strong foundation in business and leadership; teaches skills in identifying and understanding the latest trends and the local, regional, and global influences on these fields; personalized career coaching; and intensive internship experiences.

"Many students have a deep passion for sports, the arts, or the entertainment field," says Roy Stein, program director and professor in the School of Business and Leadership. "The entertainment industry in all its incarnations - sports, arts, dance, music, etc. - is one of the most rapidly expanding of the global economy. This major provides the students an opportunity to turn that passion into a career path."

The four-year program has the flexibility to include a minor or to study abroad - and even to complete an internship abroad. Students can go on to jobs in venue management; sports, arts, or entertainment owner, manager, or agent; athletic director; music and arts promoter, entertainment marketer, or event coordinator or producer.

"Nazareth does an amazing job at preparing students for their life's work!" says Kelsey Sweet, a 2015 alumnae who went on to work for multiple teams and sports organizations, including Pegula Sports and Entertainment (NFL's Buffalo Bills and NHL's Buffalo Sabres), where she is senior social media editor. "Not only did I learn valuable skills through my courses, but I also gained a lot of great experience through my internships, campus activities, and leadership roles. I'm excited to see that the new sports and entertainment major allows for customization of electives based on your interests. I loved taking art history, photography, and political science courses."

She loves that "every day is different" in sports and entertainment and that she has great opportunities for travel and new experiences.

Students benefit from the College's strong visual and performing arts and athletics, with top-notch campus facilities such as Glazer Music Performance Center's Beston Hall, the Arts Center's Callahan Theater, and Golisano Training Center. Nearby, the city of Rochester and the Upstate New York region have a wide variety of athletic, arts, and entertainment organizations and venues that provide multiple internship options tailored to students' specific interests, plus the College has connections well beyond this area.

Graduates are expected to see strong career prospects, as the multi-million-dollar sports industry sees a high growth rate for sports-related careers and as the entertainment sector is rebounding from the global pandemic.
