French Consul to New York and Delegation of Rennes-Rochester Sister City Committee Visits Nazareth College During 60th Anniversary Celebration

Rochester, NY (04/25/2018) — The Consul of France, Anne-Claire Legendre, will visit Nazareth College as part of the 60th anniversary of the Rennes-Rochester Sister City Partnership. She will also preside over the induction ceremony to honor the new members of Nazareth's Pi Delta Phi National French Honor Society. This year also marks the 48th anniversary of the Rennes Study Abroad program between Université Rennes 2 and Nazareth College.

This Pi Delta Phi ceremony, which is open to the public, takes place in the Medaille Formal Lounge on May 8th, from 2:00-3:00 p.m., on the Nazareth College campus. The delegation will experience an induction ceremony to a national honor society for the first time. This is not a typical part of French culture. This ceremony allows Legendre and the Rennes Sister City Delegation to recognize new distinguished members of the National French Honor Society as well as to celebrate the existing partnership between Rennes and Rochester. For more information, please contact Dr. Mireille Le Breton, Associate Professor of French and Francophone Studies, and Pi Delta Phi chapter Moderator at mlebret5@naz.edu.

Anne-Claire Legendre became the first female Consul General of France in New York in 2016. As Consul, she is responsible for promoting the influence and appeal of France across the tri-state area including New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey. The community of French Citizens in that area is currently 80,000. Before working with the Direction of the French Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to develop consular cooperation between member states of the European Union, Legendre served at the French embassy in Yemen from 2005 to 2006. Legendre has experience with North African and Middle Eastern relations through her charge of bilateral relations with Algeria as part of the Direction of North Africa and the Middle East in 2008-2010. She then worked as the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations alongside the French Ambassador to the U.S. until 2013 when she joined the cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development Laurent Fabius, as Advisor on North Africa and the Middle East.
